Essential South America

Posted on Wednesday 24 April 2013

Is the first word that comes to mind when describing the sites you’ll visit on this cruise. A whole month to visit so many places, each one more fascinating than the next. From Colon in Panama to Ushuaia in Argentina, le BOREAL will take you from one iconic site to another.

We start the programme with the Panama Canal, where every year thousands of freighters pass through its 82 km-long passage on their journey from one ocean to another. In 2014, it will celebrate its 100th birthday. We continue on to Peru via its mysterious Incan cities, including the bewitching Machu Picchu, perched at over 2,400 metres above sea level. And also the mystifying Nazca lines whose amazing shapes traced on the ground are said to have been created between 500BC and 500AD.

Where next? A trip along the Andes Cordillera, and a visit to the city and port of Valparaiso, a colourful stopover that appears in so many sea shanties. Continuing down south, we’ll discover Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego. Unspoilt, wild nature in landscapes lined with fjords and glaciers. Sublime. And unforgettable.

Once we reach the stunning Beagle Channel that Darwin once sailed through, you’re not far from Cape Horn, a stormy sea passage that remains one of the most legendary amongst sailors the world over. Captivating. And finally, you disembark in Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet.

From the warm waters of Central America to the icy waters of the end of the world. A 30-day cruise experience that is quite simply…mythical.
